“God found some of the Strongest Women in the World they are Nurses” - RN Maya Devi Adhikari (Manisha)

“God found some of the Strongest Women in the World they are Nurses”

Nurse is a Person who provided care to individual or community in the problematic situation as well as healthy conditions. In the old Days, the nurse we known as women who took care of the sick injured, and dying person without any formal Knowledge. Nursing is being a Major profession in providing health Care of Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative services. The Scope of nursing is very broad and highly demanded.

Nursing encompasses so much more than just medical care- it has to do with the human touch as well. When a patient needs a drink of water or a painkiller, it is the nurse whom they turn to. Nurses look after even the most intimate needs of patients, and they do so with compassion and thoughtfulness. Tasks that range from coaxing the patient to eat, telling a joke while drawing blood, to helping the patient to take a few steps after a surgery, all fall within the nurses’ responsibilities.

While it is the doctor who manages the overall healthcare plan, nurses are the ones who carry it out; and in doing so they spend the most number of contact hours with the patient. Ninety-nine per cent of patient interactions in hospital are with their nurses, and patients learn to trust their swift handling of any problems they may be facing.

Nursing is a health care profession that involves years of training and continued specialized education to care for patients in a variety of settings. Nurses are often the first healthcare professional that patients meet. They are a technical expert, an educator, a counselor and a resource for the family, using all senses to better care for a patient.

Nursing profession is a career in which one has the opportunity to give care to others in need, share health information with others to help them live better lives, and grow professionally in almost any way one can dream possible. Whether one is interested in research, bedside nursing, or advanced practice, nursing provides the opportunities to do all of these things. Another nice thing about nursing is that nurses are able to be many different kinds of nurses throughout their career. For example, one could be a pediatric nurse for a few years, then decide to be a critical care nurse for the next few years, and then decide to become a nursing instructor! It is an amazingly, rewarding career. One piece of advice to always remember: Don't forget the basics. Everyone wants a caregiver who truly cares about their well-being and comfort.

Nursing focus is on the whole patient, thereby setting itself apart from other disciplines through the positive caring approach. A profession is the ability to acquire knowledge in areas of science and the nursing profession is one that is grounded in theories, sciences, math, biology, and anatomy and physiology. Nursing is a discipline that focuses on alleviating pain and suffering through protection, promoting health, wellness, and prevention of illness and injury. The nursing profession is an advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations. The profession advocates education, prevention, collaboration, coordination of care, and adheres to a high standard of care. Today, the nursing profession transformation is a vision of Florence Nightingale’s showing in the hospital designs, evidence-based medical care, and holistic patient. Nurse work to promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. They are always advocate and health educators for patients, family, and communities. Nurse develop and manage nursing Care plans instruct patients and their families in proper care, and help individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health they spend much of their time on care. Nurse motivates the people to find their health needs, increase interest to adopt healthy life style and increase awareness regarding health ,sanitation, hygiene etc. Until the people are interested and become aware of their needs, they will not consume the health service provided to them.

Nurses always reflects the trust that the public hold in nurses; and truly, whether by the bedside or in the executive boardroom, nurses are the most trusted in the healthcare system in any country. Patients look to nurses for care during their most vulnerable times, and the nursing profession has proven time and again that they do, indeed, deserve this trust!

Nurses must necessarily draw on this single minded trust that patients place in them, by advocating them on health issues and doing all they can to improve the welfare of the community at large. Recovering patients are more likely to listen to the words of advice from the nurse who has been at their bedside during their stay in hospital. They will follow the patient care advocated by them, as they perceive that their nurses honestly care for them and want their well-being.

However tired they may themselves be, nurses are trained to be cheerful and pleasant and to extend compassionate care at all times. When you are not in the best of health, a smiling face can make all the difference to your quick recovery! At times when the patient’s health prognosis is not so positive, it is again only nurses who can be relied upon to tell the truth, clearly and correctly. Nurses often help patients to make informed decisions about their continued healthcare. For this reason, patients learn to expect honesty from their nurses.

Do anything wrong, they can be trusted to do all the right things they are only Nurse. To stay on top of the profession and keep themselves abreast of all the advancements in the field, nurses must undertake professional development courses. This will help them to keep up the trust that the community has placed in them and to carry out their duties to the best of their ability.

Thank You!

Poem: Breast Feeding - Monica Khatri

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is practiced from the time of ancients
It provide infants all the necessary nutrients

Contains Antibodies, Anti-viruses and Anti allergens
Protects the baby from infection and illness

Bond among the mother and baby is closely linked
Baby drink it helps mother uterus to shrink

Mothers milk to her baby is a first immunization
If given in time directly helps the family and nation

Some may say formula is good
But for child there is no any substitute food

People fear breastfeeding makes child clingy and dependent
But instead it binds them emotionally and makes more confident.

Breast Feeding : Importance and Practices - Maya Devi Adhikari (Manisha)

Breast Feedings: Importance & Practices

Important of Breast Feeding

Breast Milk also Known as First immunization. Breastfeeding is important for a baby health and Mother health it provides the baby with necessary nutrients, promote growth and help to strengthen the baby immune system. Now a days, many women are axiety about feed their baby cause they worry about own health that cause directly and indirectly detorate baby Health. Breast milk provides nutrients, vitamins, proteins, fat and antibodies to help your baby body and brain develop properly, baby also emotionally attach .skin to skin contact with mom creates a strong bond and scene of security Benefit of Breastfeeding and have a lower risk of allergies, low risk of obesity and type 1 and 2 diabetes, reduce from infection (otitis media) better to immunization against polio, tetanus, Diphtheria, and Hemophiliacs influenza. Various studies have found that children who were breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months of life were less likely to contract an infection, develop diseases, or develop allergies. Furthermore, breast-milk is more easily digested, promotes digestive health, and helps to establish and maintain the child’s microbiome. Science Daily has found that breastfeeding reduces the chance that a mother’s child will develop autism. Child may develop autism because his brain neurons are unmyelinated. Demyelination may occur because the child has an inadequate supply of insulin-like growth factor (IGF), which is due to a combination of environmental and genetic factors. The study proposes that breast milk, which contains IGF, increases deficient IGF levels in susceptible children and helps to prevent the onset of autism.

A mother’s breast milk, however, can also create vulnerability in her child. There is mounting evidence that shows toxins in a mother’s breastmilk increases the chances that a child will develop autism or other health complications. A mother may be exposed to toxins through her environment or diet. Breast milk contain a 71 kcal, protein 1.2gm, fat 3.8gm, calcium 33mg% ,Iron o.1mg% , Phosphorus 15mg%, vitamin A 80IU, Vitamin D 0.125 IV, Vitamin c 1.25mg.

WHO recommendations

Infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life to achieve optimal growth, development and health.
Thereafter, to meet their evolving nutritional requirements, infants should receive nutritionally adequate and safe complementary foods, while continuing to breastfeed for up to two years or beyond

Breastfeeding Practices

The determinants of children’s growth include genetic potentialities, family size, lifestyle, socio-economic environment, infections, nutrition and the availability of medical care. However, nutrition is the most prominent factor which can either directly or indirectly influences children’s future development. For instance, those children who are malnourished and manage to survive do not enjoy a good health and experience impaired development in the long run. there is a rising concern about overweight and obesity in children. Therefore, proper nutrition and nurturing during the early years of life is crucial for an infant to achieve optimal health and well-being. Hence, there is no more precious gift in infancy than breast feeding. Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mother”.Saha et al.,23 reported that the current recommendations of WHO and UNICEF on breastfeeding are as follows Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour after the birth.Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.Continued breastfeeding for two years or more and proper introduction of solid foods starting in the sixth month which are nutritionally safe and adequate.

Exclusive Breastfeed

Exclusive Breastfeeding means breast milk from the mother or a wet nurse or expressed breast milk. The WHO and UNICEF, both recommend that mothers should breastfeed their child exclusively for the first 6 months and continue breastfeeding up to 2 years or longer rather than stop EBF practice as from 4-6 months.

Although breastfeeding an infant exclusively for the first 6 months of life carries numerous benefits, many studies are centered on the “weanling’s dilemma” in developing countries which involves choosing between the protective effects of exclusive breastfeeding against infectious diseases and the (theoretical) insufficient breast milk to meet the infants’ energy and micronutrient needs beyond four months of age. However, the author claimed that there is no data giving an estimate of the proportion of exclusively breastfed infants at risk of specific nutritional deficiencies.

Conclusion

Breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant feeding up to 6 months. It remains the most cost effective way for reducing the risk of diseases such as obesity, hypertension, eczema, type diabetes among others in later life as well as mortality. Breast engorgement, sore nipples, milk insufficiency and availability of various infant formulas are the main factors which influence breastfeeding practice in terms of initiation, exclusivity and duration. On the other hand, complementary foods in terms of nutrient-dense are normally introduced around 4 to 6 months. Difficulties encountered during the weaning process are often refusal to eat followed by vomiting, colic, allergic reactions and diarrhea. Given related problems associated with breastfeeding, it is highly likely that in the future, nutrigenomics (or nutrigenetics) based research will provide opportunities towards personalized modification of breast milk for optimum health of neonates.

Poem: Born to Serve - Isha Aryal

Born to Serve

Exhilarated and panicked, both I was,
The first time I wore that dress as a student nurse.
The nervousness for a new experience to climb,
Especially how I'd help the sick to well in time.

Nights I've spent completing assignments,
Nights I've spent in reducing client’s pain .
I witnessed his pain and witnessed her suffering.
And couldn't sleep after seeing someone's going.

Can't forget the day when an old man raised his voice.
That day I couldn't stop tears rolling from my eyes.
And also the happiness and smile of pleasure,
When his wife appreciated me of good behavior.

Bygone the days when I was a student,
More responsibilities in my hand now I’ve held.
Now I've understood we can't stop the death,
Instead have the power to make everyone feel safe.

And also have realized the old man wasn't arrogant
He was grieving through displacement.
Throughout the years I've felt myself change
As I gradually learnt how people behave insurgence.

With an empty stomach, I've worked with a full bladder
Many a times I do feel I can't handle the workload any longer.
Often I've had a thought of giving up
But, then I understand it's not just a job.

I feel grateful to see a mother with a smile
After hours of labor pain when she holds baby in her style.
I feel happy to see my patient getting well and cure
I'm glad whatever the problem there's still a ray of hope for sure

When I close my eyes to get some rest
I thank God for believing me the best .
No matter how difficult day was to hold the nerve
At the end I feel glad I'm nurse, born to serve.

Nurses are undervalued, underpaid, unsafe and Unsupported: Silence must be heard - Trishna Shrestha

Nurses are undervalued, underpaid, unsafe and  Unsupported: Silence must be heard - Trishna Shrestha

Time and again, we get to hear that certain number of nurses is fired from their workplace. In spite of heavy workload and over duty hours, they are underpaid. There are heartbreaking stories of nurses whose parents have invested huge amount on her education and after graduation have been working in hospital for months without any remuneration.

Today, from a classical bedside nurse, nursing professional has transited to many other scopes like manager, administrator, researcher, educator, health coach, entrepreneur, travel nurse and many more. Thus, performing wide spectrum of roles, nursing professionals are still undervalued, underpaid, unsafe and unsupported. There is growing dissatisfaction and disgruntlement that is being shouted from mouth of nurses – silently. Government health centers need a total of 46,000 nurses. But only 15,000 have been employed so far, according to Nursing and Social Security Division under the Department of Health Services. There is this deficit because the government has not increased the number of posts for nurses and same problem is in private hospitals. This causes the nurse – patient ratio mismatched ultimately resulting in work overload, poor patient care, medication error, patient dissatisfaction and infuriation. Now think, is this sane to fire nurse stating dissatisfaction from her work by the management? Or is this fair to blame a nurse for not attending to patients, behaving rude and failing to provide services on time by patient parties?

Despite of workload and longer duty hours, nurses are not getting the salary they deserve. There are many nurses who have completed studies and recruited in a post receiving less than Rs.5000 per month and other nurses volunteering for months and months with full efforts to care patient. Nurses have no job stability. They feel unsafe as at any time they may get fire without any reason. Those nurses who advocate for their patients and ensure they get care they require are struggling their voice to be heard while trying to advocate for themselves. Nurses’ problems have been overshadowed by the management. In workplace, nurses have been devalued because of perspective that they possess superficial knowledge. They are undervalued because of the perception that it is old fashioned, feminine, caring and compassionate profession. Most people have out looked nurses as lovely, caring, giving some medications and dressing some wounds, but they really don’t know what knowledge and responsibility they hold. But all these perception regarding this profession has to be changed.

If you want to change the world, start with yourself. If you want to bring change in nursing profession, start from nurses. Change doesn’t happen overnight. There is no button that’s pushed to magically alter everything. Change happen little by little. Hour by hour. Day by day. All you have to be is persistence. Nurses should study more to make theoretical strong apply that knowledge practically in clinical. More focus should be given to evidence based learning. Independent nursing care can be given if we become ourselves more competent. Do not limit your creativity in your work and enhance your personal development to change the attitude of others. Unity among nurses should be established to raise the voice against exploitation. Beside from nurses, organization should appreciate and award the role models, “employee of the month/week” and encouraging them to take initiatives, conduct professional and social skill development programme. Nursing organization should work actively to protect and promote professional right.

Nurses are the hospitality of the hospital and nursing care has always been a major component of health systems. Thus in order to address the current problems of nurses, the government must ensure that hospitals comply with international labor laws and end unethical exploitation of nurses.

Thank You!

जब कुनै मनिस मसगॅ  आएर तिमीलाई  के पो थाहा छ र;

THIS IS WHAT MY PROFESSION POSSESS- Anu Paudel

THIS IS WHAT MY PROFESSION POSSESS

People asked me
What's so special about your profession?
I took a deep breath
With long exhalation

Millions of thoughts crossed in mind
But i uttered something with kind
      "Nothing much to be counted"
Here went a slient scream inside me shouted

I feed people when
They dnt even feel their hunger
Ignoring my own hunger
With missed lunch and supper

      I run to help
Even when my feets are burning like hell
Running all day here and there
With responsibility where i cant dare to fail

Some cant speak
Some cant move
Reading there eyes
I keep them smile and alive

At midnight with my sleepy eyes
Taking a round at patients side
A grandma grabbed my hand and said
Sit here with me my child

I wanted to sleep
But couldn't say goodnight
There i spent all night
Listening to her assuring  eth will be alright

I have cried in their sorrows
And been profund in their progress
   I am a NURSE
And this is what my profession possess.
